What a beginner lesson usually covers

Most instructors start you on the tiles and suits, the annual National Mah Jongg League card, the Charleston pass, calling and exposing tiles, Joker rules, and how a hand is scored. Many also run small-group classes and refreshers for returning players who want to sharpen strategy. Lessons happen at homes, libraries, community centers, and increasingly over video call.
