Run your mahjong league on your phone or the web

ELO ratings, live standings, season management, and QR-verified scoring for American Mahjong. Players join free from the Mahjic app. Admins run the whole season from the Bam Good Time dashboard.

Everything a season needs

ELO ratings

Every confirmed match updates each player's rating using an ELO model adapted for the four-player table. Ratings carry across seasons and connect to the open leaderboard at mahjic.org.

Live standings

Standings update the moment a table confirms its scores. Players see their rank, record, and points without waiting for an admin to tally a spreadsheet.

Season management

Set a season length, a deadline per round, and let the app handle the rest. Start a new season and the bracket resets while history stays on each player's profile.

Rotation matchmaking

A Mobile League assigns each player a number and uses rotation patterns so the schedule decides who plays whom each round. No manual pairing.

QR-verified scoring

Each match starts with a shared QR scan, and scores need three-of-four agreement before they count. That keeps the standings honest without a referee at every table.

The Scramble ladder

Prefer an open ladder to a fixed schedule? The Scramble lets any player propose a match at a venue and date. Three others accept, you play, and the best results each week count toward your rank.

Mobile League

A fixed-roster season for 12 to 32 players. Rotation patterns set the schedule, every round has a deadline, and scores add up across the whole season. Best for a club that wants a structured competition with a clear winner at the end.

  • Fixed rotation patterns sized to your roster
  • Cumulative scoring across all rounds
  • Per-round deadlines set by the admin

The Scramble

An open, city-wide ladder with no fixed schedule. Any registered player proposes a match at a venue and date, three others accept, and your best results each week move you up. Social and Competitive tiers keep games at the right level.

  • Player-proposed matches anywhere in the city
  • Best results per week, plus a bonus for proposing
  • Social and Competitive skill tiers

League questions, answered

What is a mahjong league?

A mahjong league is a season of organized play where the same group of players competes over several rounds and a running standings table decides the winner. Bam Good Time runs two kinds: a Mobile League with fixed rotations across rounds, and the Scramble, an open ladder where players propose their own matches.

Do I need an app to join a league?

Leagues live in the Mahjic app for iPhone and iPad, under My Leagues. Tap a league to register. Free leagues add you instantly; paid leagues open a Stripe checkout in the app and activate your season pass once your card clears. Admins also manage everything from the Bam Good Time web dashboard.

How are league ratings calculated?

Each confirmed match runs through an ELO model adapted for four players: every player at the table is compared against each of the others by win rate. New players move on a larger K-factor so their rating settles quickly, and experienced players move on a smaller one. The same engine powers the open rating system at mahjic.org.

What is the difference between a Mobile League and the Scramble?

A Mobile League has 12 to 32 players, fixed rotation patterns that decide who plays whom each round, and a deadline per round. The Scramble has no fixed schedule: any registered player proposes a match at a venue and date, three others accept, and scoring is best results per week plus a small bonus for proposing the match. Both share the same QR start, three-of-four score consensus, and standings engine.

How does scoring work?

Players record the result at the table, and the match counts once three of the four players agree. A Mobile League adds up every confirmed match across the season. The Scramble counts your best N matches per week. Either way the standings recalculate automatically.

How much does it cost to join a league?

Joining is free for players unless your club charges a season pass for that specific league. There is no separate Bam Good Time fee to play, and any league payment flows to the club through Stripe with no platform markup.

Can I run a league for my club?

Yes. League management is part of the Pro club plan ($49/month or $525/year). From the admin dashboard you create the league, set the rotation and season, invite players, and watch standings update live. Players join free from the Mahjic app.

How are standings tracked?

Standings live on the server and update as soon as a table confirms its scores. Players check their rank and record in the app, and admins see the full table on the web. Nobody maintains a spreadsheet.

What is a rotation pattern?

A rotation pattern is the schedule that decides which four players sit together in each round of a Mobile League. Bam Good Time ships standard patterns sized to your player count so everyone gets a fair mix of opponents over the season.

Can players from outside my club join?

The Scramble is city-wide, so any registered player in your area can propose and accept matches, which is a good way to grow a competitive scene beyond one club. A Mobile League is run by a club for its own roster, though admins can invite anyone they like.

Ready to start a season?

League management comes with the Pro plan. Set it up once and let the standings run themselves.
