Mahjong Gifts: Best Gifts for Mahjong Players in 2026

The best mahjong gifts match how the person plays. Small table extras like shufflers, a scoring pad or linen napkins cost $10 to $20. A table mat or clear racks cost about $40. A full American Mahjong set is the big gift. If you are not sure what they already own, give a gift card, a class or a tournament entry.

Mahjong players are easy to shop for once you know what helps at the table. This guide is organized by budget. Every product named here was in stock in our shop when we checked on October 22, 2026, at the prices shown.

Small Mahjong Gifts Under $25

Good for stocking stuffers, a table of friends, or a thank-you for the host.

• Mahjong Shufflers, $10. Double-sided plastic cards. One side has step-by-step order of play: building the wall, rolling for East, dealing and passing. The other side is a "BAM! Let's Charleston" reminder. Pink, blue or red. A great pick for a beginner.
• Notepads, $10. The Bam Good Time Notepad and the Good News It's Christmas Notepad are 4.3 by 5.5 inches with 50 sheets. Small enough for a purse, and handy for keeping score.
• Bam Good Scoring Pad, $20. 50 sheets, each 6 by 7.8 inches, with scoring instructions that are easy to follow.
• Linen beverage napkins, $20. Two holiday designs, Mahj and Bright and Christmas Is About the Good News, 20 napkins to a pack, with artwork by Nashville artist Wells Roberts. A nice hostess gift for a holiday mahjong party.

About the NMJL card: every player needs the current year's card, and the National Mah Jongg League sells it on its own website: $14 for a standard card and $15 for large print. A new card comes out each April, so by the holidays most players already have this year's. Ask before you buy one. If you do give one, our guide on how to read the NMJL card makes a good companion.

Mid-Range Mahjong Gifts, $30 to $50

For the player who has the basics and would love an upgrade.

• Show Me Your Mahjong Rack T-shirt, $30. A cheeky shirt in small through extra-large. Bam Good Time donates all proceeds from these shirts to the John B. Amos Cancer Center, in honor of women treated there for breast cancer.
• Our $40 table mats. Three designs: Miramar, Merry & Bright and In Season. Each is 33 by 33 inches of neoprene with a non-slip back, with wall, play and Charleston directions printed in the corners. A mat quiets the clack of the tiles and keeps them from sliding, and it rolls up to carry.
• Clear Mahjong Racks, Set of 4, $40. Clear acrylic racks with attached pushers, so building and pushing the wall is one motion. Each rack is 17 5/8 inches long. One for every seat at the table.
• Hand Painted Needlepoint Canvas, $50. A square canvas for the player who also stitches. Four designs: Joker, Bird Bam Cardinal, Good News of Great Joy, and Flower (Poinsettia).

The Big Gift: A Mahjong Set

A set of their own is the gift most new players remember. Our pick is the Wild Confetti Travel Mahjong Set, $395, a Bam Good Time x By Wells Roberts collaboration with bright, hand-drawn suits and a hummingbird on the back of each tile.

In the clear tote, per the product page: 160 acrylic travel tiles, 4 acrylic travel racks, 1 pusher, a 24 by 24 inch neoprene travel mat with the Charleston printed on it, a canvas mat bag and a velvet tile bag. The tiles include 10 Jokers and 6 blanks, so it covers the full 152-tile game with spares.

Before you buy any set as a gift:

• Ask, if you can. Many players already own a set. A travel set can still be a welcome second set.
• Check the count. An American set needs at least 152 tiles, including 8 Jokers. A 144-tile set is for Chinese Mahjong.
• Think about how they play. Travel tiles are smaller and lighter, which is great for carrying to games. Full-size tiles are easier to read at home.
• Know the price range. In listings we checked in October 2026, basic sets ran about $50 to $100 and designer sets about $250 to $450.

Our full American Mahjong set buying guide covers tile materials, racks, cases and what a beginner's starter set needs.

Not Sure What They Have? A Shop Gift Card

The Bam Good Time Gift Card comes in $25, $50, $100, $200 and $400. The shop says it can be used on anything in the shop, from tile sets to mats, racks and accessories. It is delivered by email with instructions to redeem at checkout, and it never expires.

A gift card is also the easy answer when time is short, since there is nothing to ship.

Experience Gifts: Classes, Tournaments and Club Gift Cards

Some of the best mahjong gifts are time at the table.

A Mahjong Class

For someone who wants to learn, or a player who wants to get better, give a class. Our lessons directory lists upcoming American Mahjong lessons by state, with dates, teachers and online signup. For private lessons, browse the instructor directory, and see our guide to finding a mahjong instructor near you.

Pick a class with your friend's schedule in mind, then ask the teacher how to pay for a seat in your friend's name.

A Tournament Entry

For the player who loves a challenge, a tournament makes a memorable day out, or a trip. Our tournament directory lists upcoming American Mahjong tournaments by state and on a map. A free account shows each venue and registration link. For tournaments that double as a getaway, see our guide to mahjong cruises and destination tournaments.

Registration happens on the organizer's own page, so check the date with your friend, then ask the organizer how to enter someone else.

A Gift Card for Their Club

If your friend plays at a club on Bam Good Time, check whether the club sells its own gift cards. Clubs can turn them on for their club website. Where a club has, you can buy one without an account:

1. Open the club's website and go to its gift card page. You can find the club in our club directory.
2. Pick an amount and enter your friend's email. You can add a name and a short message.
3. Pay by card. The gift card is emailed to your friend.

Each club sets its own amounts and decides whether its cards expire, and the form shows both. If the club does not sell gift cards, the page says so.

A Few Gift-Giving Notes

• All sales are final at our shop. The refund policy says the shop cannot accept returns or exchanges for a change of mind. If an item arrives damaged, defective or wrong, email mahjong@bamgoodtime.com with your order number and the item, and the shop will replace or refund it.
• Shipping is shown at checkout. The shipping policy says costs and delivery times vary by destination, and you see your exact shipping cost before you pay.
• Bundle small gifts. Shufflers, a notepad and a scoring pad together make a nice table kit for under $50.
